If you are tired of looking in the mirror and seeing wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, and across your forehead, it is time to call Luxbody Plastic Surgery in the heart of Miami. You can schedule a free consultation and find out what Botox injections can do for your appearance.

During your consultation, the cosmetic surgeon will give you a brief overview of what Botox is and how it can help you. The information here will help you prepare for your visit and possibly help you think of questions you should ask during your visit.

What is Botox?

Botox is a toxin known as botulinum toxin type B that has been approved for use in cosmetic surgery in small, diluted amounts. Once it is injected, Botox acts as a muscle relaxant. This relaxant causes the muscles in the face to relax and thus the appearance of wrinkles and lines disappears.

Botox injections can minimize the appearance of lines around the mouth, crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead wrinkles. Your doctor will explain that your face will not be paralyzed, but gently relaxed. Many people have a misconception about Botox and are afraid their face will look like a statue and have no natural movement.

You should make sure that your cosmetic surgeon explains the safety of Botox so that you understand thoroughly.  Botox is a safe procedure and causes no problems for most people. However, there are some people who should not use Botox. If you are in any of these groups, discuss this with your cosmetic surgeon and find alternate treatment options. These groups include:

During your consultation, you should ask your doctor what ingredients are in Botox injections. If you know you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you should not move forward with the injections.

The Injection Procedure

Once you have made the decision to have the injections, the surgeon will discuss your medical history and evaluate various areas of your face treatment. Your face will be marked so that you and the surgeon know where the injections are going to be inserted. The injections are done using extremely thin needles, which reduce the pain associated with typical injections. You should not feel much pain; however, your doctor may use a local anesthetic to numb the injection site and ease your fears. The procedure only takes a few minutes. You will be out of the office and back to your day in less than an hour.

There is no actual recovery time involved in Botox injections. Some patients report minor headaches; however, those subside quickly. Your cosmetic surgeon may ask you not to lie flat for several hours. This prevents the Botox from spreading to other areas. You should also avoid rubbing the area of the injection.

You may or may not experience slight pain at the injection site. This varies and is not serious. In rare situations, Botox may cause the eyelids to droop. This is known as ptosis. This is not typical and should you experience it, call your surgeon. Ptosis is not permanent and will correct itself after a few weeks.

Post Injection

It may take three to seven days before you see the full effects of the Botox injections. You should see a dramatic improvement in lines and wrinkles. The effects of Botox can last anywhere from three to six months.

When the Botox wears off, your face will return to the same state it was in before the injections. Many people are afraid they will look worse than they did before the injections.

Your plastic surgeon will advise you on how often you can repeat Botox injections. You do not want to repeat them more often than advised; Botox is a toxin in large amounts. Follow your doctor’s advice and only use Botox according to recommendations.
